How to convert a torrent to a magnet link

  1. Choose your .torrent files

Drop one file or a batch. Your browser reads the metadata and calculates its info hash locally.

  2. Review the magnet

Check the version, filenames and trackers. Choose whether to include the display name and original tracker addresses.

  3. Copy or save your link

Copy a magnet, save the batch or make a QR code. Open the link in your own compatible torrent client.

Using the Torrent to Magnet Converter

Conversion starts when you choose a .torrent file. You do not need the content files or a running torrent client.

Open and manage your torrents

Choose one file or up to 50 together. The total metadata budget is 50 MiB, with a 10 MiB limit per file.

ControlWhat it does
Choose .torrent filesOpens local metadata. You can also drop files anywhere on the page, paste files or use the file bar’s picker.
Try an exampleCreates a synthetic 303-byte torrent locally. It describes hello.txt and uses example.org tracker addresses. No real swarm is opened.
Add more / ClearAdd more appends to your batch. Clear removes every open torrent, cancels the reader and returns to the drop zone.
Your torrentsSelects the result to inspect. Remove a file with its ×, or focus its button and press Delete or Backspace.

A malformed file gets its own named error. Other valid torrents stay open. Filenames shown inside a torrent are metadata claims.

Read your magnet and info hashes

The result shows the exact text you will copy. The identity is calculated from the original encoded info dictionary.

  • V1 uses a SHA-1 info hash and a btih magnet topic.
  • V2 uses a SHA-256 info hash and a btmh topic with its multihash prefix.
  • Hybrid includes both topics. Your client chooses the supported identity.

Each hash has its own Copy button. A hash identifies metadata; it does not prove the source is trustworthy.

Choose what your link includes

Build your link controls optional fields. Neither option changes the info hashes.

OptionResult
Include display nameAdds the torrent’s name as dn. Turn it off for a shorter link.
Include original trackersAdds supported addresses as repeated tr parameters. Duplicates are removed and tiers are flattened. No extra public trackers are added.

Review tracker addresses before sharing a link. Some contain personal passkeys. HTTP, HTTPS, UDP, WS and WSS addresses are recognised but never tested or contacted here.

Inspect files and trackers

Files lists the paths and sizes stored in the metadata. Find a file filters by its full path.

The list shows up to 150 matches at once. Narrow the search to find more. Padding entries are labelled; content totals exclude padding.

Trackers

Read the original addresses as plain text. Invalid or unsupported addresses are counted and omitted from magnets.

Metadata details

Check the metadata size, piece size, private flag, creation date, creator and comment when supplied.

Copy and save your result

Copy magnet copies the selected public torrent. Copy all links copies one public magnet per line and excludes private torrents.

Save formatWhat you get
Magnet link (.txt)The current magnet followed by a newline.
Metadata (.json)Hashes, original trackers, file details and the current public magnet. Private torrents have no magnet field value.
File list (.csv)Paths, exact byte sizes and padding flags. Formula-like paths are prefixed with an apostrophe for spreadsheets; JSON keeps the exact path.
QR code (.svg)A static QR containing the current magnet. Long tracker lists can exceed QR capacity. Shorten the link or save text instead.

Show QR code previews it without saving. Select QR code (.svg), then use Save QR in the file bar to keep it.

The batch save uses your current format and the shared ZIP or separate-files choice. Batch filenames have numeric prefixes. Private torrents are excluded from magnet and QR exports.

Open in and Share pass the saved output through the shared file bar. Narrow, Wide or Full at the top right of the tool changes your workspace.

Keyboard shortcuts

The shared file controls and inspector work from your keyboard.

KeysAction
⌘O / Ctrl+OChoose torrent files.
⌘S / Ctrl+SSave in the current format. With several torrents open, saves the eligible batch.
Delete / BackspaceRemove the focused torrent chip.
← / →Move between the Files and Trackers tabs. Home and End select the first and last tab.

What this tool will not do

It does not fetch webpage URLs, accept magnet input, retrieve torrent metadata from peers or turn a torrent into video.

Private torrents are inspection only. Metadata can describe up to 20,000 files and 256 distinct supported trackers per torrent. Unsupported or malformed structures are named in the error.

Reading metadata does not verify content, v2 piece layers, seed availability or malware safety. Conversion needs JavaScript, web workers and Web Crypto over HTTPS or localhost.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert a torrent file to a magnet without uploading it?

Yes. Choose the local .torrent file here. Your browser calculates its info hash and builds the magnet. The converter does not send the file to a processing server or contact trackers and peers.

Does this work with ordinary torrents?

Yes. Local conversion of supported public v1, v2 and hybrid metadata does not depend on WebRTC peers or seed availability. Your torrent client still needs to support the magnet’s version and find peers when you use the link.

Can I turn a magnet link back into a torrent file?

A magnet’s hash cannot reconstruct its original metadata. That direction needs metadata from a peer, an existing client or another source. This converter does not fetch it. Keep the original .torrent when you need the complete metadata.

Why is magnet output disabled for a private torrent?

A private torrent needs its original tracker information and the tracker’s approved client. A magnet can lose that context, including the private flag before metadata arrives. You can inspect the file and export JSON or a file list here. Use the original .torrent to add it to your client.

Does changing the name or tracker options change the torrent?

No. These options change optional magnet parameters. The original info hash stays the same. A hybrid magnet includes both identities. Removing trackers can affect discovery, especially when a client cannot use DHT.

Does the converter download or play the files inside?

No. A .torrent contains descriptions and hashes, rather than the video, archive or other content itself. This tool creates links and shows metadata. It does not download content, seed, stream, check malware or report live tracker health.

Are torrent files or magnet links saved to my floi account?

No. Files, filenames, hashes, tracker addresses, magnet links and QR contents stay in this tab. Clear or reload removes them from the tool. Copy and Save create the outputs you request. Ordinary page analytics and numeric completion counts exclude the torrent data.
