Original and Your rewrite
Original keeps your starting text intact. Your rewrite is editable after generation, so you can correct a detail without another AI run. Try an example fills the input with a short library announcement. Clear input empties only the original.

Choose the change you need. These are instructions to a small local model, so their effect varies with your passage.

Local AI model and first download
Qwen3 1.7B is the larger default. Qwen3 0.6B has a smaller download and lower memory needs. Their quantised model files are about 968 MB and 335 MB, plus tokenizer and runtime files. The WebLLM runtime loads from GitHub.
Paraphrase starts the download. Progress shows the current file, followed by GPU preparation and generation. Stop cancels the work and keeps your previous result. Completed downloads may remain cached. Allow time for the first run, especially on a slow connection.
Keep specific words
Open Keep specific words and enter comma-separated Protected terms, such as a product name or technical phrase. The model is asked to retain up to 12 terms. A check flags exact terms missing from the result; it cannot force perfect preservation.
Show changes and review details
Show changes underlines added text and strikes through removed text. Edit result returns to the editor. Comparison always uses the current Original, including your later edits.
The review panel flags changed numeric tokens and missing exact protected terms. A number rewritten as a word may trigger a flag too. Treat it as a prompt to look closer, never as an accuracy score.
Copy text, Download .txt and Focus mode
Copy text copies your edited result. Download .txt saves plain text without formatting. Focus mode gives the workspace more room and keeps the Narrow, Wide and Full layout controls. Press Ctrl + Enter, or ⌘ + Enter on a Mac, to paraphrase.
What this tool will not do
It does not verify facts, check plagiarism, translate reliably or guarantee that a rewrite preserves meaning. It is designed for short English passages. It cannot run local AI on unsupported hardware, and it does not silently send text to a server instead.
For a long document or a device without a suitable GPU, a hosted editor may be more practical. If you paraphrase someone else’s ideas, keep the attribution and follow the rules of your school or publication.

Is this AI paraphrasing tool free?
Yes. All six styles and both models are free. You do not need an account or daily credits. Each passage can contain up to 300 words and 3,000 characters. That limit bounds the work your device must do, rather than reserving longer text for a paid plan.
Does my text leave my browser?
Your text is not sent to an AI service for rewriting. The model runs on your device. If you sign in to floi, your text drafts and settings save automatically to your private account. Signed-out drafts stay in this browser. Text opened from files and its later edits stay in this browser’s local storage. They do not sync to your account. The model files download from Hugging Face, which receives the download request, not your passage.
Which browsers can run the paraphraser?
You need WebGPU with the shader-f16 feature and enough GPU memory for the selected model. The page checks support before enabling Paraphrase. Try an up-to-date Chrome or Edge on a supported computer. Availability varies by browser, operating system and hardware. A small phone may not have enough memory even when WebGPU is available.
Can I use it as a sentence or paragraph rewriter?
Yes. Paste a sentence or several short paragraphs into Original. Choose a writing style, then press Paraphrase. The output is an editable draft. Use Show changes to compare words against your current original before copying.
Will paraphrasing preserve the original meaning?
It aims to, but there is no guarantee. Review numbers, names, negations and qualifications such as “may” or “up to”. The review panel flags missing exact protected terms and changed numeric tokens. It does not understand or verify every fact.
Does it work offline?
An already loaded model can generate without an inference service. The initial visit needs a connection for the page, runtime and model files. Browser caches can be cleared or evicted, so a fresh offline visit is not guaranteed to work.
