How to record your screen online
- Check your picture and sound
Choose source and confirm a tab, window or screen in your browser. Add a microphone or camera if you need them. Check the live preview and sound meters.
- Record at your own pace
Press Start recording. Pause for a break, mute either sound source or mark a moment to find later. Press Stop recording when you finish.
- Review, trim and save
Play the recording with sound. Trim the beginning or end, then press Save recording. Save original keeps the complete recording without re-encoding.
Using the screen recorder
Prepare is a live check. Recording begins only when you press Start recording, after your chosen countdown.
Choose a tab, window or screen
Choose source opens your browser’s own sharing picker. The Tab, Window and Screen buttons express a preference; your browser makes the final choice.
| Control | What happens |
|---|---|
| Tab | Suggests a browser tab. This is usually the cleanest choice for a website and its sound. |
| Window | Suggests one app window. Other windows stay out. Shared audio may be unavailable. |
| Screen | Suggests your whole display. Anything visible there, including notifications, can be captured. |
| End preview | Releases the screen and inputs without making a recording. |
| Change source | Ends the current preview and opens the browser picker again. Changing the preferred source also ends the preview. |
| Try a demo | Creates an animated example and a test tone. It never asks for your screen, microphone or camera. |
Check microphone and shared audio
Microphone records your voice. Tab or system sound requests audio from the selected source. The two switches do different jobs.
A connected input appears with a live meter. Play some sound or speak to check movement before you record.
- Microphone device chooses an available input after permission is granted. Device names and identifiers stay in this tab.
- Microphone asks for access when you choose a source, or when switched on during a live preview.
- Tab or system sound needs your browser’s Share audio option too. Changing it ends the preview so you can choose again.
- Mic level and Shared level lower each input before mixing. With two inputs, each starts at half gain to leave room for their combined sound.
- Mute mic and Mute sound exclude an input immediately, including during recording. The track remains in the mix.
- No shared audio was provided means this source returned picture only. Choose a tab with Share tab audio, or use narration.
Use headphones when recording both inputs. Speaker sound can enter the microphone and appear twice, even with echo cancellation.
Set the camera bubble and presentation frame
Camera bubble adds your camera to a corner of the recording. Its separate permission appears only when you request the camera.
Place your camera
Camera device chooses an available camera after permission is granted. Bubble position chooses one of four corners. Bubble size changes its diameter. Mirror camera affects the preview and saved video.
Choose a frame
Clean capture keeps the picture edge to edge. Soft, Ink and Paper backdrops inset it into a rounded frame.
Check the result first
The live preview shows the composition. Change these settings before recording. Camera and framing settings lock while recording.
Choose frame rate and quality
Resolution, Frame rate and Target quality are always visible above the preview. Changes apply to the live source before recording.
| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
| Resolution | Source resolution keeps the highest dimensions your source provides. Choose 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4K or 8K to set a height limit. Smaller sources are not enlarged. |
| Frame rate | Choose 24, 30, 60, 90, 120, 144, 165 or 240 fps. Source maximum removes the application’s frame-rate ceiling. Your screen and browser determine actual delivery. Review shows the average encoded frame rate. |
| Target quality | Auto scales the bitrate with resolution and frame rate. Maximum detail allocates more bits. Presets run from 2.5 to 200 Mb/s. Custom bitrate accepts 1 to 500 Mb/s. These are encoder targets, not guaranteed output bitrates or lossless modes. |
| Timing | Opens Countdown and Stop after below the presentation frame. Higher bitrates reach the memory limit sooner. |
| Countdown | None, 3, 5 or 10 seconds before capture is recorded. Cancel countdown returns to the live preview. |
| Stop after | Stops at 1, 3, 5 or 10 minutes of recorded time, or the default 30-minute safeguard. Paused time does not count. |
Pause and mark useful moments
Pause leaves the preview live but takes the break out of the saved video. Resume continues the same recording.
Mark moment adds a timestamp without painting anything onto your video. Up to 50 markers appear below the review player.
Stop recording ends capture and releases your screen, microphone and camera. Your browser’s Stop sharing control also finishes the recording.
Review, trim and save your recording
Play the finished video with sound. Sound captured lists the input tracks, but quiet or muted parts can still be silent.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Trim handles, Start and End | Choose the section to keep, in seconds. Play selection stops at its end. Reset trim restores the full selection. |
| Marked moment | Seeks the original preview to that time. Copy timestamps copies the original timeline, before trimming. |
| Save as | Original format uses the native container. MP4 and WebM request a browser-side conversion when necessary. |
| Save recording | Saves your selected section in the chosen format. Edited exports preserve the recorded frame timing and use its quality target. Unedited original-format saves avoid re-encoding. |
| Save original | Saves the complete native recording, ignoring trim and conversion. It stays available during an edited export. |
| Cancel export | Stops optional conversion. Your original recording remains available. |
| Open in and Share | Use the file bar to send the selected result to another floi tool or another device through File Transfer. |
| Clear | Discards the recording and markers from this tool. Save anything you want to keep first. |
Use Narrow, Wide or Full at the top right of the tool to change its working space. Minimising keeps the work in the dock.
Keyboard controls
Recording shortcuts work while this page has focus. They do not control a different app or the browser’s sharing picker.
| Keys | Action |
|---|---|
| Space | Pause or resume recording when focus is outside a form, button or video. |
| M | Mark a moment while recording or paused, outside a form or button. |
| ⌘ / Ctrl + S | Save the selected recording when review is available. |
| Tab and arrow keys | Reach controls and adjust a focused trim handle or slider. |
What this tool will not do
It cannot guarantee system audio, capture protected video or record a phone screen from a browser without screen-sharing support. Capture stops at 30 minutes or 512 MiB of encoded data. This limits retained video bytes, not the browser’s total memory use.
Trimming and format conversion support selections up to 10 minutes. Browser encoders determine which formats work. Your original is always available separately.
Camera and frame effects use separate frame processing where supported, so switching tabs does not stop their drawing loop. A compatibility fallback needs this recorder to stay visible. Clean capture uses the source stream directly when its size matches.
Frequently asked questions
Is this online screen recorder free and without a watermark?
Yes. You can record and save without an account, subscription or watermark. There is no daily quota. Recording stops at 30 minutes or 512 MiB of encoded data as a memory safeguard. Trimmed or converted exports support selections up to 10 minutes.
How do I record my screen with audio?
Leave Tab or system sound on, press Choose source and choose a source in your browser. Tick Share tab audio or the equivalent sound option when it appears. Turn on Microphone if you also want narration. Check both meters before pressing Start recording. A source can return video without audio.
Why is my screen recording silent?
The selected source may not have supplied audio, the browser may not offer it, or the source may be quiet or muted. The recorder shows the tracks it actually received. Choose a playing browser tab and tick Share tab audio to try again. Microphone audio is separate. The guide explains platform differences.
Can I record my screen and webcam together?
Yes, where your browser allows camera and screen access. Turn on Camera bubble, allow the camera, then check the preview. Choose its corner, size and mirror setting before recording. The bubble is drawn into the saved video. Screen and camera permissions are separate.
Can I save the recording as MP4?
Save as offers MP4 and WebM alongside the original format. Conversion depends on your browser’s video and audio encoders. If it cannot preserve every media track, the export stops with a reason. Save original remains available. A different extension alone does not convert a video.
Does this screen recorder work on iPhone or Android?
Most mobile browsers do not expose screen sharing to websites. Use Screen Recording in iPhone or iPad Control Centre, or Screen record in Android Quick Settings. The guide explains those routes. A supported desktop browser is needed for this recorder’s screen capture.
Are my screen recordings uploaded or saved to my account?
No. Screen, camera and audio processing happen in this tab. Recordings, previews, source details, trim positions and marked moments never enter account drafts or analytics. Only presentation and quality settings can save to an optional signed-in account. Save your recording before closing or reloading the tab. The privacy page explains the site’s separate analytics services.
