    How to generate a password

    1. Choose the kind of secret

Use Password for something you will paste, Passphrase for something you will type, or PIN for a digits-only requirement.

    2. Fit the rules

Choose the length. For a password, select character types and edit allowed symbols or exclusions if your site needs them.

    3. Copy and keep it safely

Copy the result into your password manager. Use a different secret for every account. This generator keeps no history.

    Using the password generator

A new password appears when the tool starts. No usable secret is included in the page’s static HTML.

    Choose Password, Passphrase or PIN

Choose for the way you will enter the result. Switching types replaces the current secret.

    Password

Random characters, from 4 to 128. Set Password length directly or use 12, 16, 20 or 32.

    Passphrase

From 3 to 12 random words. Start with six. Choose a Word separator, Capitalise each word or Add a random two-digit number.

    PIN

From 4 to 32 random digits. Shortcuts offer 4, 6, 8 or 12. Leading zeros and repeated digits remain possible.

The number field and slider control the same length. Changing a generation setting creates a new result and clears any batch.

    Fit a website’s character rules

Keep the character types your destination accepts. Open Match a website’s rules for precise exclusions.

    ControlWhat it does
Uppercase, Lowercase, Numbers, SymbolsChoose the character groups available to the password. At least one must remain enabled.
    Avoid look-alikesRemoves I l 1 O 0 o |. Useful when you will type the result from another screen.
Allowed symbolsKeep only printable ASCII punctuation your site accepts. Repeated entries do not increase their likelihood.
Exclude charactersRemoves individual characters from every group. Uppercase and lowercase letters are different.
At least one of each selected typeRequires each enabled group to appear. Switch it off if the site has no composition requirement.

The rule note shows the remaining character pool. Impossible rules clear the result and explain how to fix them.

Read, copy or clear your secret

Copy password, Copy passphrase or Copy PIN copies exactly the displayed secret. Regenerate replaces it using the same settings.

    • Hide / Show conceals or reveals all results. Secrets also hide when this tab becomes hidden.
    • Clear secret removes the result and batch. Your clipboard remains unchanged.
    • Read it character by character spells letters with their case and names punctuation. Passphrase offers Read it word by word.
    • What does this number mean? explains the bits calculation. It describes generated randomness, not phishing protection or a promised cracking time.
    • Manual copy appears if clipboard access fails. The secret is selected for keyboard copying.

Narrow, Wide or Full at the top right of the tool opens a focused workspace. Minimise keeps the current work in your tab’s dock.

    Make several at once

Open Make several at once and enter How many, from 1 to 100. Generate batch creates distinct results under the current rules.

    ControlEffect
Copy batchCopies every batch item, one per line. The main secret is separate.
Copy beside an itemCopies that item alone.
Clear batchRemoves the batch while keeping the main secret.
How manyChanging the count clears the previous batch. Generate batch makes a fresh set.

A batch is refused if your rules allow fewer distinct results than requested. There is no plaintext file export or password history.

    Keyboard controls

Standard keyboard controls work throughout the tool. The regeneration shortcut runs while focus is inside it.

What this tool will not do

This is a generator, not a password manager. It cannot store, recover, autofill, breach-check or change a password for you.

There is no field for your current password. The tool cannot know whether a destination accepts its output. Check the site’s limits, especially for long passphrases. Browser generation needs JavaScript and Web Crypto.

Passphrases use an EFF-derived word list, adapted under CC BY 4.0. Four internal hyphens were removed and one duplicate merged, leaving 7,775 unique entries. Custom symbol lists and exclusions stay in memory. Length and the listed generation preferences save privately.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I generate a strong random password?

Start with the default 20-character password. Keep the character types your site permits and copy it into your password manager. Increase the length when you can. Use each password for one account, and enable multi-factor authentication where available.

    Can I make a 12, 15 or 16 character password?

Yes. Enter the exact number in Password length, from 4 to 128. There are shortcuts for 12, 16, 20 and 32 characters. Shorter settings exist for compatibility. They are not recommendations for accounts that accept longer passwords.

Can I generate a password without special characters?

Switch Symbols off. You can also leave Symbols on and open Match a website’s rules to keep only specific punctuation. Exclude characters removes individual letters, digits or symbols. If a selected type becomes empty, the tool explains what to change.

Do you store or send the passwords I generate?

Generation uses your browser’s secure random source. Secrets and batches stay in this tab and never enter floi drafts, account storage, history or analytics events. Only the listed generation preferences save. Copying places a secret on your clipboard, which your operating system or clipboard manager may retain. The site’s normal analytics services are described in the privacy page.

Is a passphrase just a sentence I can remember?

No. This tool chooses each word independently from 7,775 EFF-derived entries. A quotation or sentence you invent follows different patterns. Keep all the generated words and their order. Fixed capitalisation and separators add no randomness.

Why does the tool show bits rather than time to crack?

Bits describe how many possible outputs these generation rules allow. An attack’s speed depends on the destination’s storage method, hardware and guess limits. A precise time estimate would need assumptions this generator cannot verify. The number applies to the generated secret, not to a password you invent.

Can I recover a password after closing the page?

No. There is no password history or recovery. Copy it into a trusted password manager before leaving. Clear secret removes the main result and batch from the tool. It cannot erase a copy already held by your clipboard or another app.
