Script reading view

Space plays and pauses. Move the pointer, tap or use the keyboard to show the controls. Escape returns to editing.

From a script to a comfortable read

  1. Bring your words

Paste or write a script, open a TXT or MD file, or try the sample. Leave blank lines between paragraphs.

  2. Find your pace

Open Reading setup. Choose words per minute, text size and a comfortable line length. Mirror the text if your rig needs it.

  3. Make the next take yours

Press Start reading. Pause with Space or a tap. Choose a paragraph to rehearse that part again.

Using the teleprompter

Start in Script, then use Reading setup to fit the reader to your camera position. Nothing needs recording permission.

Write, paste or open your script

Use the script box for your words. A blank line makes a new paragraph in Rehearse a paragraph.

ControlWhat it does
ScriptOpens your editable text and paragraph shortcuts. Editing pauses playback and returns to the beginning.
Write or paste a script / Go to readerMoves focus to the editor or back to the reader. Go to reader appears when the studio is narrow.
Try a sampleReplaces the current script with a short rehearsal example.
Open script / Choose TXT / MDOpens a UTF-8 plain text or Markdown file. Markdown appears as plain text, including its punctuation.
ClearEmpties the script and returns to the ready state.
Rehearse a paragraphPauses at the chosen paragraph. The next start uses your countdown so you can prepare for a retake.

The word count and estimated read update as you type. Your browser segments words; spoken numbers and abbreviations can take longer than their counts suggest.

Set the pace and the reading line

Open Reading setup to adjust the moving text. Start with a paragraph you can read naturally, then change the pace.

SettingWhat changes
Reading pace40 to 300 words per minute, in steps of five. The duration estimate excludes the countdown.
Text size24 to 88 CSS pixels. Larger text wraps into more lines.
Line lengthThe maximum text column, from 12 to 52 character units. The available screen space also limits it.
Reading linePlaces your reading point between 20% and 60% down the reader.
CountdownNo countdown, or 3, 5 or 10 seconds before a fresh start or paragraph retake. Resume continues immediately.
Mirror horizontally / Flip verticallyReverses the script for your physical rig. Buttons and the script editor stay the right way round.
Show reading line / Dark readerShows the guide band, or switches between white text on black and your site theme.

Pace advances through words and measures the lines actually on screen. Resizing, mirroring or changing type keeps your current word position.

Play, pause and retake

Start reading runs the countdown, then scrolls. Pause holds your position. Resume continues there, and Read again starts a finished script from the beginning.

  • Restart script returns to the beginning and pauses.
  • Back five seconds and Forward five seconds move by five seconds at the current pace, then pause.
  • Script position seeks anywhere in the script. You can also scroll or swipe the reader to find your place.
  • Reading view fills the screen with your script and playback controls. It uses browser fullscreen where supported.

In Reading view, controls hide after three seconds of inactivity. Move the pointer, use the keyboard or tap once to reveal them. Keyboard focus and dragging keep controls visible.

Exit reading view or Esc returns to editing and pauses at your current word. Browsers without native fullscreen use the whole page.

The − and + buttons below the reader change the pace by five WPM. They stay available in Reading view.

Playback pauses when you switch tabs or minimise the tool. Where supported, the browser is asked to keep the screen awake during reading. Device power settings can still override that request.

Keep a copy or open another tool

Copy script copies the plain text. Save script makes a UTF-8 TXT file. Both keep your line breaks.

The file bar’s Open in and Share use that text file. More actions holds controls when the bar narrows. More ways to add a file includes paste and From your phone.

Use Narrow, Wide or Full at the top right of the tool for focus mode. Open another tool beside this one can put the screen recorder next to your script. A recorder can capture the prompter if it falls inside the shared area.

Click or focus the reader first. Shortcuts leave the script box and ordinary form controls alone.

What this teleprompter will not do

It does not follow speech, record a camera, correct your eyeline or float over other apps. Use a separate recorder. It cannot keep reading while its tab is hidden.

Scripts are limited to 40,000 characters. Imported files can be up to 160,000 bytes. PDF, Word, RTF and scanned pages need converting to plain text first.

File imports and their later edits stay on this device. Typed or pasted scripts save to your private account when signed in. Browser storage can be cleared, so keep a TXT backup of work you need.

Frequently asked questions

Is this online teleprompter free?

Yes. You can write, import, rehearse and save a script without an account or payment. It does not record video or add a watermark to your recording. Your camera or recording software runs separately.

What speed should I use for my script?

Start with the default 140 words per minute, then read a paragraph aloud. Slow it down if you rush or lose your place. The best setting is the pace you can speak comfortably. The control runs from 40 to 300 WPM.

Does it follow my voice?

No. The text moves at your chosen pace. The tool does not request your microphone. Pause with Space or a tap, or adjust the pace with the up and down arrow keys while the reader has focus.

What does mirror mode do?

Mirror horizontally reverses the text for teleprompter glass, which reverses it again in the reflection. Flip vertically suits an inverted screen in a rig. The controls remain readable. Leave both off when reading directly from your screen.

Can I use this teleprompter on my phone?

Yes. The reader, script and settings stack on a narrow screen. Tap the reader to start or pause. Swipe it to change your position, or use the position slider. Record on another device or test your recording setup first: a browser page cannot place itself over another camera app.

Where does my script save?

Typed or pasted scripts stay in browser storage when signed out. Signed in, they save automatically to your private account. Scripts opened from files, and later edits to them, stay in the separate local file-text storage. They never become account drafts. Use Save script for a plain text backup.

Can people see the teleprompter when I share my screen?

They can if your shared screen or window includes it. floi cannot hide itself from a screen recording. Share only the intended tab or window, keep the reader elsewhere and review a short test recording before your session.
