How to beautify a screenshot

  1. Paste your screenshot

Paste from your clipboard, drop a file or choose a PNG, JPG or WebP. The editable example lets you try every control first.

  2. Frame it and explain it

Choose a background and spacing. Add arrows, labels or numbered steps. Cover sensitive areas with opaque redaction.

  3. Export a finished image

Check your composition, then download PNG, JPG or WebP. Save a named style to reuse the design on your next screenshot.

Using Screenshot Studio

Start with the example or your own image. Your preview updates as you change the design or add annotations.

Choose a screenshot and inspect the preview

Choose screenshot replaces the image with a PNG, JPG or WebP. Dropping or pasting a screenshot does the same.

ControlWhat it does
Try exampleOpens a generated dashboard with an editable arrow and step marker. It uses invented data.
Clear imageReleases the screenshot and annotations from the editor. Design settings stay available.
Undo / RedoSteps through up to 80 edits to annotations, crop and design. Replacing the screenshot clears this history.
Focus modeExpands the editor. Narrow, Wide and Full change the panel width. Done returns to the page.
Export dimensionsShows the finished file dimensions, including padding, frame and any caption. The canvas preview is fitted to the available space.

Preview zoom enlarges the fitted preview to 2× or 3×. Scroll inside it to inspect a detail. Export dimensions stay unchanged.

Background and composition

Canvas shape adds space around the screenshot without cropping it. Choose Fit screenshot when you want the smallest canvas around your composition.

  • Background style offers six gradients, Solid colour, Custom gradient and Transparent. The named swatches are shortcuts. First colour, Second colour and Gradient angle control your custom treatment.
  • Padding sets the gap as a percentage of the cropped screenshot’s shorter edge. The same saved style stays proportional on different image sizes.
  • Corners rounds the screenshot and frame together. Shadow changes the strength of the drop shadow.
  • Window frame adds a browser bar or window buttons. None keeps the screenshot unframed. These are decorative frames, not website capture.
  • Caption adds one line below the screenshot, up to 100 characters. Long captions shrink to fit the available width.

Arrows, labels and numbered tutorial steps

Choose a tool in the toolbar, then place it on the screenshot. Add to centre gives you a starting position without dragging.

ToolHow to use it
SelectClick an annotation or its entry below the preview. Drag to move it. Arrow endpoint handles change its direction. Rectangle handles resize a highlight or cover.
ArrowDrag from tail to tip. A click adds a starter arrow. Use Arrow end X and Arrow end Y for precise endpoint placement.
StepClick to add the next numbered circle. Delete a step to renumber the remaining markers automatically.
TextClick to add a white-backed label. Edit Label text below the preview, up to 80 characters.
HighlightDrag to add a translucent rectangle. It draws attention while leaving the underlying content visible.
RedactDrag to add a solid, opaque cover. Unlike a highlight, it hides the pixels beneath it in the export.

Position X and Position Y measure position against the original screenshot. Span X and Span Y set rectangle size as percentages of that same image.

Annotation colour sets the selected arrow, step, label or highlight colour. Annotation size changes the source-pixel size of arrows, steps and text. Redaction has a fixed opaque fill.

Duplicate makes an offset copy of the selected annotation. Delete removes it. Framing changes keep annotations attached to the same screenshot pixels.

Crop and cover sensitive areas

Crop chooses the source area included in the composition. Drag a corner or edge handle to resize the selection. Drag inside it to move it, or outside it to draw a new area. Left, Top, Crop width and Crop height also accept percentages.

  1. Choose Apply crop to use the selection. Cancel crop leaves the current source area unchanged.
  2. Choose Redact and cover each private detail completely. Include a small margin around letters and icons.
  3. Download the image and open that file to inspect it. Check headers, account names and other areas beyond the obvious secret.

Reset crop restores the full source. Annotations outside a crop remain editable in the tab and reappear when you reset it.

Covered source pixels are replaced before resizing, and the export contains no editable layers. Your original file remains unchanged. The editor still retains it for undo, so share the exported copy.

Reuse a design

Save style keeps the current framing and export settings under your Style name. Choose it from Your styles to apply it to another screenshot.

You can keep 12 named styles. Reusing a name replaces that style. Delete style removes the selected preset without changing the current design.

  • A named style excludes screenshots, captions, crop coordinates and annotations.
  • Current design settings and your manually entered caption save automatically. Sign in to keep them in your private account.
  • Files and annotations stay in this tab. They do not return after a reload.

Export settings

Download PNG exports the composition without selection outlines or crop guides. The button follows your Export format selection.

ControlResult
Export formatPNG keeps interface text crisp without another lossy encoding step. JPG and WebP use 92% encoding quality. JPG fills a transparent outer background with white.
Export sizeNative composition keeps the screenshot scale at one source pixel per export pixel. Other choices set the longest edge to 1200, 1920, 2400 or 3840 pixels.
Copy PNGCopies flattened PNG pixels, regardless of Export format. Requires a browser that permits image clipboard writes. Download works if copying is unavailable.

Canvas shape sets a ratio, not an exact pixel width. For a 1200 × 630 link preview, choose that shape and a 1200-pixel Export size.

Keyboard controls

Shortcuts work while focus is inside the editor. Text fields keep their normal editing shortcuts.

KeyAction
V / A / N / TSelect, Arrow, Step or Text.
H / R / CHighlight, Redact or Crop.
Arrow keysMove the selected annotation by one source pixel. Hold Shift to move ten pixels.
Delete / BackspaceDelete the selected annotation.
Ctrl / ⌘ + ZUndo. Add Shift to redo. Ctrl / ⌘ Y also redoes.
Ctrl / ⌘ + SDownload using the current export settings.
EscapeCancel the active drag, cancel crop or deselect. With no selection, leave Focus mode.

What this tool will not do

It edits one screenshot at a time. It does not capture your screen, fetch websites, detect sensitive text automatically or export editable projects.

PNG, JPG and WebP inputs must be under 50 MB, 24 megapixels and 8192 pixels per side. Exports are limited to 32 megapixels and 8192 pixels per side. Browser memory may run out sooner.

Animated images become a still frame. HEIC, SVG, PDF and RAW files are not supported. Source metadata is not copied. Enlarging a screenshot cannot recover missing detail.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add arrows and numbers to a screenshot?

Choose Arrow, then drag from its tail to its tip. Choose Step and click where you want the next number. If you prefer the keyboard, choose either tool and press Add to centre. Edit its position below the preview. Step numbers update when you delete a step.

Are redacted details permanently covered in the exported image?

Yes, within the area you cover. Redact replaces those source pixels with a fully opaque solid cover before resizing. PNG, JPG and WebP downloads contain flattened pixels, without an editable original layer. Your source and undo history still exist in this tab. Check the entire downloaded image for missed details before sharing.

Can I reuse the same screenshot background and padding?

Yes. Open Reusable styles, enter a Style name and choose Save style. A style includes background, framing and export settings. It excludes the screenshot, caption and annotations. Replacing the image also keeps your current design settings.

Can I make the background transparent?

Choose Clear or Transparent under Background style, then export PNG or WebP. JPG needs an opaque background, so transparent outer areas become white. The preview’s chequerboard is not included in the export.

Will screenshots and annotations save to my account?

No. Screenshots, previews, crop coordinates and annotation labels stay in this tab. Your design settings, manually entered caption and named styles save automatically to your private account when you sign in. Signed-out settings stay on this device. Download your image before closing the tab.
