Make it a document
Choose a style, check the live preview and review any missing pictures or unsupported syntax.
Save it for the next person

Using Markdown to Word
Paste Markdown into Your Markdown or open an MD, Markdown or TXT file. The Word preview updates as you write.
Bring a draft or try an example
Choose files opens your local picker. You can also drop files anywhere on this page, paste a copied file or press ⌘O or Ctrl+O.
Project brief, Study notes and README open small working examples from the empty editor. Study notes includes an editable quadratic formula.
When several documents are open, choose a name in the strip to review it. Use its × or press Delete on the focused document button to remove it. Clear removes the open work and attached pictures.
Choose a document style
Editorial uses Georgia for longer prose. Modern uses Arial. Technical combines Arial text with Courier New headings.
All three styles keep your document structures editable. Switch between Markdown, Side by side and Word preview to give your work more space.
| Document setup | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Paper size | A4 or US Letter in the exported DOCX. |
| Text size | Body text at 10, 11, 12 or 14 points. Heading sizes stay consistent across the styles. |
| Margins | Compact at about 15 mm, Standard at 25.4 mm or Generous at about 30 mm. |
| Add linked contents | A list of your headings with links inside Word. It is fixed at export and has no page numbers. |
| Add page numbers | A page-number field in the Word footer. Your word processor calculates the final page count. |
These settings apply to every open document. The preview shows reading flow. It does not claim to reproduce Word’s pagination.
Keep the useful structure
Markdown markers become Word formatting. You can edit the resulting words and cells after saving.
- Headings from
#to######become Word Heading 1 to Heading 6. - Bold, italic, strikethrough, links and inline code keep their purpose. Nested lists and separate numbered lists keep native numbering.
- Pipe tables become Word tables with a repeating header row. Left, centre and right column alignment is retained.
- Fenced code stays editable in a monospace style. Code does not get syntax colours.
- Task lists keep checked or unchecked marks. The marks are text, rather than interactive Word form controls.
- Footnotes such as
[^note]and[^note]: Supporting detail.become native Word footnotes.
Use a separate line containing <!-- pagebreak --> to request a new page. A normal Markdown horizontal rule remains a line.
Syntax help shows common markers beside the editor. For more space, use Narrow, Wide or Full at the top right of the tool.
Review equations and pictures
Common TeX equations become editable Word equations. Use $x^2$ inline or separate $$ lines for a displayed equation.
Fractions, roots, powers, indices and supported Greek letters work. An unsupported command keeps the whole expression as source. The review notes tell you when this happens.
Pictures in your Markdown lets you attach local PNG, JPG or WebP files. A reference such as matches an attached diagram.png.
- Give each picture a unique file name. Attaching that name again replaces its picture.
- Remote URLs, data URLs and SVG images are not fetched or embedded. Missing images keep their description.
- Up to 30 pictures, 10 MB each and 16 megapixels per picture. Prepared PNG data is limited to 40 MB.
Pictures are re-encoded as PNG before export. Photo files can grow. Use the Image Resizer first if a picture is too large.
Save a DOCX or the batch
File name controls the current output’s name. Choose how much of the open work to save:
- Save Word file saves the current document. ⌘S or Ctrl+S saves the batch when several documents are open.
- Save all creates a separate DOCX for each open document. Choose one ZIP or separate files beside the button. Duplicate output names receive a number.
Open in passes the current DOCX to a compatible floi tool. Share offers the available device and system destinations. Minimise keeps your open work on the desk.
Save the batch before closing the tab. Only the active source draft can return after a reload. Document names, other open documents and pictures are not restored.
What the tool will not do
It does not render every Markdown extension or make an exact copy of another app’s design. The review notes explain the supported fallbacks.
- Mermaid diagrams remain code. Raw HTML remains literal text and never runs.
- Arbitrary LaTeX, matrices, citations, automatic bibliographies and custom Word templates need another workflow.
- Obsidian wikilinks, embeds and YAML metadata are not interpreted as a notebook or document template.
- Each document is limited to 500,000 characters. Open up to 20 UTF-8 files, 2 MB each and 10 MB in total.
- Tables support up to 40 columns and 5,000 rows. Device memory can impose a smaller practical limit.
- It exports modern DOCX, not legacy DOC or PDF. It does not merge separate Markdown files.
For advanced references, custom styles or a repeated command-line workflow, see the guide’s Pandoc method.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Markdown to Word converter free?
Yes. There is no sign-up requirement, watermark or daily conversion quota. You can open up to 20 files, 2 MB per file and 10 MB of Markdown in total. Each document can contain up to 500,000 characters.
Does it make a real DOCX with editable tables?
Yes. It creates a Word Open XML document. Headings use Word heading styles, lists use native numbering and Markdown tables become editable Word table cells. It does not put a screenshot of your text inside a Word file.
Can I convert ChatGPT or Claude Markdown to Word?
Paste the Markdown source from an answer. Headings, emphasis, tables, lists and code become document formatting. Common TeX equations can become editable Word equations. Unsupported equations stay as source with a review note. The converter does not connect to your chat account.
Will footnotes and maths stay editable?
Markdown footnotes become native Word footnotes. Common equations with fractions, roots, powers, indices and supported symbols become editable Word equations. Arbitrary LaTeX, matrix environments and equation numbering are not supported. Review notes flag equations kept as source.
Are my Markdown files uploaded?
No. Conversion, preview and DOCX creation happen in your browser. Attached images are not uploaded either. Typed or pasted work and settings can save to an optional account. Imported Markdown and its later edits stay in this browser’s separate local storage. Pictures and the open batch stay in tab memory.
Can I include pictures from a README or Obsidian note?
Attach local PNG, JPG or WebP files under Pictures in your Markdown. They match standard Markdown image paths by a unique file name. Remote image URLs are not fetched. Missing pictures keep their alt text and appear in the export review notes. Obsidian wikilinks and embeds need standard Markdown syntax first.
Can I convert several MD files to DOCX at once?
Yes. Open several Markdown files, review them in the document strip and choose Save all. Each becomes a separate DOCX with the same document settings. Choose one ZIP or separate files. It does not merge the documents into one Word file.
Will the Word document look exactly like the preview?
The preview shows reading flow, styles and document structures. Word chooses page breaks using the paper size, margins and fonts available on your device. Line wrapping and equation spacing can differ. Open the saved DOCX before sending it.
