How to make a meme
Find your picture
Open your own image, paste a screenshot or try an original starter. Your picture stays on your device.
Add the punchline
Write your captions. Drag them into place, or give the words their own space in a caption band.
Save and share
Choose PNG or JPG, check the preview and save your meme. There is no floi watermark.
Using the meme generator
The editor opens with an original example you can change straight away. Type your own joke, or choose Open image to use your picture.
Your picture and the preview
Open image accepts one picture. Its menu also offers paste and a way to receive a picture from your phone. Dropping a new file replaces the current image and keeps your words. Clear returns to the empty image area while keeping your captions.
Open Start with an original below the preview for Office cat, the original Two moods drawing or a blank Just words canvas. They keep your words and set their style and position for that picture. Changing the image starts a new undo history.
Choose a popular meme template
Choose Template library above the preview to browse 230 formats. Search by a name or nickname, or filter by Reactions, Choices or Stories. Choose a picture to open it in the editor.
The library shows 24 templates at a time. Scroll for the next set, or choose Show more templates. Only the selected full image opens. The gallery images come from floi’s own images.floi.dev host.
Each template has caption boxes for its layout. Your typed captions stay when you switch. Extra captions remain available if the new format needs fewer boxes. The original example words clear on your first library choice. Use × or Escape to close the library.
Write and place the captions
Write holds your caption list. Photos holds pictures you add over the background. Style changes the selected caption’s appearance. Position holds its placement controls. Export holds the file options. The preview remains visible while you edit. On a narrow screen, the controls scroll beneath it.
Caption 1 is your setup. Caption 2 is your punchline. Add a caption gives you another text box, up to eight. Each caption holds up to 600 characters.
Working on chooses a caption from any editing section. Each caption also has a Style ↗ shortcut. Its × removes it. Empty captions stay out of the saved image.
Place your own photos over the meme
Choose Add photo in the file bar. You can also open Photos and choose or drop pictures in its photo area. A drop elsewhere on the page opens a background instead. You can add up to eight photos. Each one stays in this browser.
Select a photo on the preview or in its list. Drag it to move, or pull a corner to resize. Width and Height set its size in output pixels. Photo size changes its width as a percentage of the background. Its position sliders let you place it without dragging.
Keep original proportions keeps the photo’s shape while you resize it. Turn it off to set width and height independently. Turning it on again restores the original shape. Transparent PNG and WebP areas reveal the background.
Move back and Move forward change the order of overlapping photos. Captions always sit above the photos. A photo stays within the picture area when you add caption bands. The × beside its name removes it. Undo restores removed photos, and Reset size and position centres the selected photo at its starting size.
Added photos stay when you switch backgrounds or templates. Clear removes the background and all added photos. Reloading removes them too. Their files, names and positions never enter account drafts.

Style and position
Style includes alignment, ALL CAPS and Outline thickness. Thickness is a percentage of the font size. Set it to zero for plain text.
In Position, Caption width controls line wrapping. Horizontal position and Vertical position move the caption without dragging. These three controls wait while a caption sits in a band, because the band places it automatically. Reset positions restores the current template’s caption positions, or the standard positions for your own image.
Check, undo and save
The preview and saved file use the same drawing code. Selection borders stay out of the file. If words cannot fit, saving waits and a message tells you to shorten the caption or give it more room.

Tab to a caption on the picture to place it without a mouse. Text fields keep their normal typing shortcuts.

What it will not do
Your background and each added photo can be up to 40 MB, 40 megapixels and 16,000 pixels per side. The saved meme is limited to 4096 pixels on either side. Tall photos and caption bands may reduce its width to stay inside that limit. Transparent background areas receive a white fill. Added photos keep their transparency.
Large overlay photos are resized to a maximum 2048-pixel edge in memory. Enlarging them beyond that detail can look soft. Your original files are unchanged. Older undo steps may be released to keep photo memory bounded.
This is a still-image meme maker. It does not export animation, automatically cut out photo backgrounds, generate AI captions or publish a public link. Popular templates come from Imgflip’s public library and are served by floi. Use images you have permission to share.

Yes. You can make and save memes without payment or an account. floi adds no watermark, credit or logo to your image.
Can I make a meme with my own photo?
Yes. Choose Open image, drop a picture anywhere on the page, or paste an image from your clipboard. JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and GIF are accepted when your browser can read them. GIFs become still images.
Can I put a photo on top of a meme?
Yes. Choose Add photo at the top, or open Photos and choose your pictures. You can add up to eight photos, drag them into place and resize from a corner. Width and Height set the exact size. Keep original proportions preserves the shape. Captions sit above the added photos.
How do I put the text above the picture?
Choose White band or Black band. Caption 1 goes above the picture. Caption 2 goes below it if you add words there. Each band grows around its caption, so it does not cover the image. Additional captions stay over the picture.
What font does this meme maker use?
Classic starts with Anton, a bold condensed font served by floi. It gives you a similar heavy look to classic Impact memes without depending on fonts installed on your device. You can also choose Inter, Bebas Neue, Oswald, Space Mono or System sans.
Are my images uploaded or saved to my account?
No. Your image, filename, caption positions and undo history stay in this tab. Typed captions and design settings save on this device when signed out, or to your private account when signed in. Reopen your image after a reload.
Can I make an animated GIF or video meme here?
This tool creates still PNG and JPG images. It does not preserve animation, write jokes with AI or host public memes. For a loop made from images or a video clip, use the GIF maker.
