Video compressor / converter

Make a video smaller or change its format without sending it anywhere. Pick a target size, check the estimate and export MP4, WebM, MOV or MKV from your own browser.

✓ Target presets for 8 MB, 10 MB and 25 MB✓ MP4, WebM, MOV and MKV when supported✓ Optional 1920, 1280 or 854 px width cap✓ Your original never leaves this device

Drop a video in, pick a size, save locally.

No upload. No sign-up. Your original stays on this device. The browser's available codecs decide which formats it can write.

How to compress a video online

  1. Drop in your video

Choose an MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV or OGV file. The browser reads it locally and shows its duration, dimensions and size.

  2. Choose the file you need

Pick compression, a target such as 8 MB or conversion without recompression. Choose MP4, WebM, MOV or MKV.

  3. Check the estimate, then save

The export runs in your browser. Download the new file when it is ready. Your original remains unchanged.

Using the video compressor and converter

The workspace keeps the preview, output choices and estimate together. You can answer “make this fit” without opening a full editor.

Goal

Balanced compression keeps more of the source bitrate. Smallest useful file saves more bytes. Fit a target size works from a limit such as 8 MB. Convert without recompression copies compatible video and audio streams. It cannot change the width or guarantee a smaller file.

ControlWhat it does
Convert toWrites a new MP4, WebM, MOV or MKV file. The selected format must support the video and audio tracks.
Max widthDownsizes the video before encoding. It is unavailable when you choose conversion without recompression.
Common limitsSets the target mode to 8 MB, 10 MB or 25 MB.
Estimated resultShows an estimate before export. The final file size is reported after saving.
Full screenOpens focus mode with more room for the preview. Use the Width control to size the panel, then Done or Escape to return.
Download buttonEncodes or copies the full video locally and saves a new file. The source is not changed.

Why the estimate can move

Compression sets a target bitrate from duration. Motion and audio affect the final number. Conversion without recompression keeps the streams, but a different container can change the file size.

What it will not do

This tool keeps one continuous video. It does not trim several sections, add captions or repair a file that the browser cannot decode. Use the video trimmer for one cut, or a desktop editor for a multi-track project.

Keyboard shortcuts

The preview uses the browser's normal video controls. There are no extra export shortcuts, so the same workflow works with a keyboard and a screen reader.

Frequently asked questions

Can I compress a video without uploading it?

Yes. The page reads the file with your browser and sends its frames to a local encoder. No video bytes, filename or preview goes to a processing server. The practical limit is your device memory and the codecs your browser can decode.

Can this make a video fit under 8 MB or 25 MB?

Choose Fit a target size, then pick 8 MB, 10 MB or 25 MB. The tool calculates a video bitrate from the duration and aims below your limit. Motion, audio and the browser encoder affect the final number, so the result is reported after export.

Can I convert a video without recompressing it?

Yes, when the selected format can hold the recognised video and audio tracks. Choose Convert without recompression. The tool copies those streams into a new container without changing their quality. It stops if a track needs re-encoding. Embedded subtitles are not copied. Container overhead can change the file size, and a new container does not guarantee playback in every app.

Should I choose MP4, WebM, MOV or MKV?

MP4 is the safest choice for phones, slides and broad sharing. WebM is useful for websites. MOV is a QuickTime container that fits some Apple and editing workflows. MKV is a flexible archive container. The browser still has to support the selected video and audio codecs, so a format can fail on one device and work on another.

Does compressing reduce video quality?

Compression trades detail for fewer bytes. The balanced preset keeps more of the source bitrate. Smallest useful is more aggressive. Capping the width can save more bytes than pushing the quality lower, because fewer pixels need encoding.

Can I convert MOV to MP4 in this tool?

Yes, if the MOV tracks are supported. Choose MP4 as the output. Select Convert without recompression to keep compatible video and audio streams unchanged. If a track does not fit MP4, the tool stops and asks you to choose another format or a compression goal.
