Your browser already ships a video decoder, a canvas and the file APIs. Every tool on this shelf is a handle on those three, which is why a 4 GB video opens the instant you drop it in. It never moves off your disk.
That matters most here. Media files are the big ones, so they are the slowest to upload and the most awkward to hand to a stranger. A frame from an unreleased edit is exactly the file you should not be sending anywhere.
